US-EU Privacy Shield
The GDPR poses severe restrictions on the transfer of data out of the EU. One of these requirements is that the transfer must only happen to countries with adequate data protection laws. In general, the US is not on the list.
Privacy Shield allows US companies, or EU companies working with US companies, to meet this requirement of the GDPR. We have joined the initiative — please check the updated Privacy Policy. It may take a couple of weeks before we’re on the public list.
Chrome Browser extension
We have introduced a JS snippet to translate website on the fly back in May. It’s easy to add it to the webpage, but still, it takes some engineering effort.
That’s why we built a Chrome Browser plugin, which works exactly as the JS widget does, but right in the browser.
You may download the development version, or wait until it is published in the Chrome Web Store.
TMS Connectors
We have built template connectors to work with TMS over REST or SOAP API and XLIFF, even if the TMS does not have a native Intento plugin. It works with any enterprise TMS, such as XTM or Memsource. It takes a week or two to set it up for a specific workflow, but still much faster than building from scratch.
MT Provider News
Yandex reduced their prices for international clients, so we also reduced the price from $7.1 to $6 per 1M characters. We have enabled using Yandex MT with your own Yandex credentials.
Tilde (Latvia) published on Intento their first pre-trained MT engine for English to Polish. It’s quite expensive — $6 per 1,000 words, so be careful.
CloudTranslation (China) published on Intento their LifeSciences MT engine for English to Chinese, $2.5 per 1,000 words.
PROMT added new language pairs: Arabic <> Italian, Italian <> Chinese
Systran PNMT added dozens of new language pairs.
Kakao Translate started to support translation for language pairs without Korean (we do not know if it’s the pivotal or direct translation).
IBM Watson added English <> Hebrew language pairs.
